Our Mission

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

Psalm 46:1-3

Our Mission Statement: Love God. Love people. And make disciples among all nations, beginning in Seattle.

The Cities of Refuge

In the Old Testament, God commanded six cities in various locations to be maintained by the priests. They were called the Cities of Refuge.

Their specific purpose was to provide safety for anyone accused of a horrible crime. If the accused could make it inside the gates of a City of Refuge, they would receive a fair trial. More importantly, they would be protected from the vengeance of their accuser.

We understand the harsh reality that we are all horribly guilty of sin and desperately need the grace of God for salvation. But Jesus paid the price for all who are accused to find safety from the accuser. When we find our refuge in Jesus, He washes away every sin.

The Refuge Church of Seattle exists for everyone who is in need of a place of refuge, where in the face of Jesus’ sacrifice, our accuser stands silent.

The History of the Refuge Church

The Refuge is a new multicultural church plant right in the heart of Seattle. We launched our first services mid 2014, in the Belltown Community Center on 5th Avenue.

For two years we had services there, in a small room right under the monorail. Today, we're in our own facility right around the corner
at 2312 4th Avenue.

Our Beliefs

Our core beliefs are what unify us, galvanize our missing, and empower a diverse, multicultural group of people into one church, on a mission to accomplish the impossible.

Every belief must be based on Biblical principles, not on traditions of man.
Every single one of us are sinners in need of God’s mercy. Therefore, we default to mercy and forgiveness – we need it too.

Every single person has a place, a calling, a ministry, a purpose in the Kingdom of God. We seek to serve the Kingdom of God before ourselves.
The responsibility of the church is not first to the church. Our first responsibility is to make disciples and fulfill the Great Commission. Our focus and mission is on sharing His Gospel with the world.
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His rightousness, and all these other things will be added unto you.

When we put Jesus first, everything else falls into place. This is the 5th Core value, but the cornerstone of all of them.
